Hello everyone! Since Donna's SNS party's theme is mantels, I thought I would put together a quick post so I could link up to her fabulous party.
If you've visited my blog before, you know that my home was built in 1979 and had all the original finishes when we bought it. That alone should paint a pretty picture for you, but I included a before picture just to make sure you have a clear picture of the "horror" (aaah!) that it was before we remodeled it.
It's kind of funny, because I was just doing a little fluffing to the mantel today, so I've already changed my display. It's still not quite done, so I'll have to show that in a later post.
My husband tore out all the brick in one day (what a trooper!) and we re-used it to build the new fireplace. (I warned you it was scary!)
I designed the fireplace from inspirational photos from various books and we had a carpenter rebuild it for us.
I found the french door mirror at my favorite antiques shop, Good Goods.
It fit perfectly above the mantel and gave it more grandeur.
My husband and I installed the bead board around the base,
and then we painted everything white to unify all the different elements.
Head on over to Donna's at Funky Junk Interiors and join her SNS link party. There's always a lot of inspiration to be had and it's a wonderful way to find new-to-you blogs. Thanks Donna for hosting every week!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
'Til next time...
Hugs ~ Jo

Hi Jo!
ReplyDeleteI sure do love your home! Everything you put together is so charming and full of character - it doesn't even look the same room. I'm always amazed at the 70s...and 80s and 90s trends.
I have a window similar to yours but with clear glass...I would love to have mirrors put in.
Thanks for all great inspiration ~ I love seeing pictures of your home.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!
Sarah
Holy cow, what a difference! Beautiful all painted white. I still need to convince someone to let me paint ours!
ReplyDeleteI just never get tired of peeking in on this room. It's just so serene. Your whites just look so crisp! Thanks for showing your mantel on the themed SNS linkup!

Hi Jo,
ReplyDeleteoh wow, what a fireplace! I especially love the fence, and the mirror on top makes it even more beautiful! But the best thing is, you built it yourself! That's a complete different story.... You must be very proud of it.
Does it heat the whole room?
I wish you a wonderful weekend, I'm going to see my brother and I'm really excited about that!
Take care
Birgit

Hello Jo.....what a beautiful fire place..........and that mirror...so nice....have a great weekend ...hugs from me....
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful. I love the white. Also the the "firescreen". Great job to you and your husband.
ReplyDeleteHello...
ReplyDeleteOhhh...what a beautiful fireplace and mantel! I love, love, LOVE the mirrored french door that you added above the mantel...it looks fabulous! I also love the old garden gate that you're using in front of the firebox! I would have never thought to do that...I love that idea! I have an old scrolly, iron garden gate that I use behind my desk in my studio. I found that it works great for placing photos, notes, etc. Anyway, thank you so much for sharing your beautiful fireplace and mantel with us today! I love your home!!!
Warmest wishes,
Chari @Happy To Design

LOL! You wanna know what I just did after looking at the photo of your fireplace? Yup. Looked at mine to see how I could make it better! lol! See what you do to me?! :) Anyway, what a transformation, Jo! I love the gate, love the plant in the bucket, and the vintage posts on each side. Beautiful!.......................oops. Sorry. Was looking at my fireplace again......

The 70's have definitely left the building, Jo! This is so pretty and it opens up the room so much more than a wall of dark brick. The horizontally placed door looks amazing above the mantel. Thanks for taking my button.
ReplyDeletehugs, Sue
Hi "Jo"
ReplyDeleteYou need to show hubby my desk bring him over :)
Then let him see your vision. He will trust you, ask him to look around your beautiful home, and then say would it be a mistake...There are no mistakes in the world of flea market shabby, only GREAT! out-comes :)
Be inspired girl with a home like yours, he has got to say yes to you :)
PS. Tell if he does not like it you will let him go buy a new one, that will win him over...He, he, he, he!!!
Hugs and kisses.
Ooooooh! oh, oh! Thank you big time for such a great inspiring comment you left for me!
xoxo

Hi Jo! Hmmmm....the progress with MY fireplace? I do believe it's at a complete standstill for the moment. I put things on. I take things off. I move things around again and again. (I feel like I'm doing some kind of weird dance or something...) Guess I have to go back to just staring at yours for more inspiration.... lol!
ReplyDeleteHugs!

I love fireplaces. My home currently doesn't have a fireplace and I'm pretty sad about it. Overall though your room was a amazing transformation. Good job.
